Agartala: April 02: In a recent Lok Sabha session, Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb urged the Minister of Development of the North-Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, to ensure that unutilized funds from various projects are redirected towards the development of northeastern states through diverse initiatives, rather than being returned after the stipulated time.

Responding to the appeal, Mr. Scindia highlighted the commitment of ministers across various departments to utilize 10% of the Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) from 54 central ministries for the region’s development. He emphasized that decisions regarding the development of northeastern states are made collectively by ministers from central ministries.

Mr. Scindia further revealed that over the past three years, unutilized funds equivalent to 103% of the GBS from 54 central ministries have been allocated for the development of northeastern states. He also noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed central departments to provide additional funds for the region’s growth. To date, approximately ₹1,02,074 crore of unutilized funds have been allocated for this purpose.
