Agartala: April 17: Serious allegations have surfaced against a man accused of assaulting and attempting to sell his three-month-old daughter. The incident, widely reported in the media, led to swift action by authorities, resulting in the arrest of the accused, Gautam Ghosh, from his home in Khayerpur Daspara.

According to reports, Gautam Ghosh, who married a year ago, became enraged following the birth of his daughter three and a half months ago. He allegedly pressured his wife to sell the infant and, upon her refusal, assaulted the child. Fearing for her daughter’s safety, his wife fled their home during Pohela Boishakh and was later assisted by members of the Youth Prerna Social Organization.

The organization provided shelter to the mother and child and reported the incident to Bodhjungnagar police station on Wednesday. With their assistance, Gautam Ghosh was arrested on Thursday morning.

Officials from the State Child Protection and Rights Commission and the District Child Protection Unit visited a private shelter home in Radha Nagar, Agartala, where they assessed the condition of the mother and child. The commission has announced plans to relocate them to a government shelter on Friday.

During questioning by the social organization, Gautam Ghosh reportedly admitted to the allegations. The case has drawn attention to the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and ensuring justice in such incidents.
