Agartala, June 14: Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pannalal Sen conducted a late-night raid on Friday at the residence of a female drug peddler in Teliamura and seized a large quantity of brown sugar.

According to reports, for quite some time residents of the Jaruilong Bari area under the 29-Krishnapur Assembly constituency had been complaining about the illegal drug trade being carried out by Lakshmi Nath Bhowmik, a widow and mother of one. Locals alleged that she was stockpiling and selling narcotics from her home, which was causing serious disruption to the social environment of the locality. However, due to the lack of concrete evidence, the police had been unable to take action.

Finally, around 9 PM on Friday night, based on confidential information, SDPO Pannalal Sen along with a large contingent from the Teliamura police station launched a raid on Lakshmi Nath Bhowmik’s house. Sensing the police presence, the accused and other family members reportedly fled the scene. Although no arrests were made, police successfully seized a significant quantity of brown sugar from the premises.

Preliminary estimates suggest the market value of the confiscated drugs to be between ₹1 to ₹1.5 lakh. Speaking to the media, SDPO Pannalal Sen confirmed the seizure and said further investigation is underway to apprehend those involved.

The raid team also included Teliamura DCM Haripada Sarkar and other senior officers from the Teliamura police station.
