Agartala, June 15:
Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has voiced serious concerns over the growing crisis of blood shortage in Tripura’s hospitals and called upon the government to take immediate steps to address the issue. Speaking at a blood donation camp organised by the Autorickshaw Workers Union in Agartala on Sunday, Sarkar emphasized the urgent need for the state to promote voluntary blood donation and maintain sufficient blood stock in hospitals.
“Patients are suffering due to unavailability of blood in hospitals. The government must step in and ensure that enough stock is maintained through regular awareness and donation drives,” Sarkar stated.
In addition to the blood shortage, Sarkar also expressed concern over the irregular attendance of senior doctors, particularly at GB Pant Hospital—the state’s premier medical facility. He stressed that senior doctors must take responsibility and be present consistently to provide timely care to patients.
“People come to government hospitals with hope for proper treatment. If senior doctors are absent, it only adds to the pain and suffering of patients,” he remarked, highlighting the growing dissatisfaction among citizens over declining healthcare services.
Sarkar warned that the deteriorating conditions in government hospitals should not be viewed solely as a shortcoming of the health department but rather as a broader failure of governance. He urged the administration to take the matter seriously and implement necessary reforms to restore public trust in the government healthcare system.
He concluded by reiterating that public hospitals play a critical role in serving economically weaker sections and must be strengthened with adequate resources, staffing, and accountability to ensure effective healthcare delivery across the state.
