Agartala, June 18: As trees protect and nurture life just like a mother cares for her child, the message behind the nation-wide campaign titled “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree in Mother’s Name), initiated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has deeply resonated with citizens across all ages and walks of life, said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday.

Dr Saha inaugurated the second phase of the nationwide campaign here at Agartala Tulsibati Girls’ School.

Dr Saha said that Tripura’s School Education Department has enthusiastically joined this noble afforestation drive. Under the campaign’s first phase, the department has successfully planted 1.426 lakh saplings across the state. In the second phase, this year, the department aims to plant an additional 1.36 lakh trees throughout Tripura, he added.

The event aimed to inspire the younger generation and the broader public to take part in environmental protection through active afforestation.

Dr Saha further said that this green initiative not only contributes to preserving the natural ecosystem and improving air quality but also strengthens the emotional connection between individuals and environmental stewardship, symbolized through the metaphor of the ‘mother’.
