Agartala, June 21: The Tripura government has provided government jobs to 18 individuals from families of those killed in political violence prior to 2018, said minister Ratan Lal Nath on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference, the Minister stated that a total of 39 applications have been received from the families of victims of political violence, seeking government employment. Based on their appeals, jobs have been provided to 18 eligible candidates so far.

To ensure transparency in the process, a Scrutiny Committee for Applications Received for Providing Employment to Members of Families of Persons Killed in Political Violence was formed, with Minister Nath serving as its Chairman.

The latest meeting of the committee was held on June 19, during which eight more applications were submitted by affected families. The committee will submit its recommendations to the state government in due course.

Minister Nath added that from 1983 to before 2018, numerous people lost their lives in the state due to political violence. In a move to support these families and uphold the values of a healthy democracy, the government has taken this humanitarian initiative.
