Agartala, June 23: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest on Monday in front of Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya, condemning what it called a deliberate attempt to vitiate the educational atmosphere of the college.
The demonstration was in response to an alleged violent attack by members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) on the ABVP’s helpdesk and the college council during the ongoing admission process.
The protest, which began at 11 am at the main entrance of the college, witnessed participation from numerous students and leaders, including ABVP’s divisional convener Anup Kanti Majumdar and Unakoti district convener Ayush Deb.
Speaking at the protest, Anup Kanti Majumdar alleged that the attack carried out on Saturday was “pre-planned and barbaric.” He claimed that the assault, aimed at the ABVP helpdesk and college council representatives, was “a blatant display of hooliganism disguised as student politics.”
He further stated that despite informing the college authorities, no action had been taken as of Monday. “It is unfortunate that the administration remains silent. SFI knows it cannot win the hearts of students through democratic means, which is why it has resorted to violence and intimidation,” he said.
The agitators demanded immediate disciplinary and legal action against those involved in the incident. A memorandum was submitted to the college administration, urging the restoration of law and order on campus and seeking exemplary punishment for the accused.
