Agartala, June 23: The state transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday chaired the 16th annual meeting of the “State Road Safety Council” here at the Secretariat.
Senior officials including the Director General of Tripura Police, Secretaries of the Health, Transport, and Finance Departments, Inspector General (Law & Order), Superintendent of Traffic Police, Transport Commissioner, and other high-ranking officials were present in the meeting.
The meeting manly focused on reviewing and enhancing road safety strategies across the state. The meeting also reviewed enforcement initiatives undertaken by various departments. Detailed discussions were held on coordinated action plans to reduce road accidents, promote awareness about traffic rules, and improve infrastructure such as signage, speed control mechanisms, and pedestrian safety zones.
During the meeting the minister emphasized the urgent need for a multi-departmental, data-driven approach to road safety. “Ensuring safe roads is not the sole responsibility of one department. It requires close collaboration among police, transport, health, finance, and urban planning departments. Our goal must be to reduce road fatalities significantly while ensuring better traffic discipline across the state,” he said.
