Agartala, June 30: To mark World Sports Journalists Day, a day long workshop was organized at the Agartala Press Club for sports journalists. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has inaugurated the programme and emphasized the importance of skill development in achieving professional excellence.
“To succeed in any field, continuous upskilling is essential. This workshop is timely and necessary. Technology, if used properly, can bring a revolutionary shift in journalism,” Dr Saha said.
Tripura Sports Journalists Club has organised the workshop with support from the Department of Information & Cultural Affairs. Eminent sports journalist from Kolkata, Gautam Bhattacharya, conducted the training sessions for the journalists of the state.
Dr Saha also highlighted the need for proper direction along with strong intent, saying, “With determination, any obstacle can be overcome, but the right guidance is equally important.”
Touching upon the role of sports journalism, the Chief Minister noted that simplifying technical aspects of games for the general public requires journalists to have an in-depth understanding of the sports they cover. He called such workshops a step in the right direction and shared personal anecdotes from his youth, including experiences in badminton, cross-country running, and football.
Dr. Saha further encouraged the development of tele-journalism to meet modern media demands, especially in regional reporting.
