Agartala, July 05: A group of 100 students from various states of Northeast India recently visited multiple centres of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Bengaluru, where they got first hand exposure to India’s significant achievements in space science and technology. The visit was organized under the North East Students’ Programme for Awareness, Reach and Knowledge on Space (NE-SPARKS), an initiative of the North Eastern Council (NEC).
As part of the two-day programme, students on the first day toured the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC), which plays a crucial role in monitoring and supporting India’s space missions. On the second day, they visited the U R Rao Satellite Centre, where they were shown satellite models, various satellite technologies, and special video footage of India’s historic Chandrayaan-3 mission. This visit not only enhanced the students’ understanding of space science but also inspired them to consider careers in the field.
According to the NEC Secretariat, a total of 800 students from all eight Northeastern states will benefit from this initiative in phases under the NE-SPARKS programme.
Meanwhile, in June 2025, the North Eastern Council sanctioned ₹1.31 crore for various development projects in Tripura. These include the construction of a girls’ hostel in Gandhigram, West Tripura, and a hostel at Dhamm Deepa School in Manu Bankul, aimed at enhancing educational infrastructure in the state.
