Agartala, July 09: In a major step toward strengthening the organic agriculture sector, the Agricultural and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday inaugurated the first ever State Level Organic Buyer-Seller Conference here in a private run hotel in Agartala and claimed that the state has achieved Organic Certification for over 25,000 hectares of farmland.
The event saw participation from various stakeholders, including farmers, buyers, agricultural experts, and government officials.
Addressing the gathering, Nath said that a total of 53 organic Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) have been formed to promote high valued crops such as Queen Pineapple, Chili of birds eye variety, black rice, aromatic rice, sticky rice, millet, turmeric, ginger and scented lemon.
Highlighting Tripura’s steady progress in organic cultivation, the agriculture minister stated that organic produce from the state — including crops and fruits — has earned accolades for its quality not only in the Indian market but also globally.
He said, “There is growing demand and appreciation for our organic products. I am confident that the organic farming movement will play a vital role in strengthening the socio-economic condition of our farmers.”
The event aimed to build direct links between organic producers and buyers, thereby ensuring better market access and fair prices for farmers. Stakeholders expressed optimism that such initiatives would boost organic agriculture and contribute to sustainable rural development in Tripura.
