Kolkata, July 11 – In a shocking incident, Trinamool Congress leader Rezzak Khan was brutally murdered late Thursday night on a busy road in Bhangar, located in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district.

Khan, a known close aide of Trinamool legislator Saokat Molla from the Canning (East) Assembly constituency, was returning home when he was ambushed by unidentified assailants. Eyewitnesses reported that Khan was first shot at close range before being hacked multiple times with sharp weapons. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital by locals, he was declared dead on arrival.

The assassination has sparked political tension in Bhangar, a region infamous for violent political clashes. In recent years, Bhangar was brought under the jurisdiction of Kolkata Police in an attempt to curb unrest, but the move has seen limited success. Incidents of political violence continue to be reported frequently.

Political blame games began soon after the murder. Trinamool’s Saokat Molla accused local MLA and All India Secular Front (AISF) leader Nawsad Siddique of masterminding the killing, alleging that Khan’s growing influence had become a threat to AISF’s presence in the region. In response, Siddique denied the allegations, claiming the murder stemmed from internal Trinamool factionalism and that his party had no involvement.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma visited the crime scene and confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway. He added that Khan’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and that no further details can be disclosed at this stage.

The murder of Rezzak Khan has once again highlighted the volatile political landscape of Bhangar, where turf wars between Trinamool and AISF continue to escalate.
