Agartala, July 13: The founder of the ruling BJP’s alliance partner TIPRA Motha Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman on Sunday demanded the Election Commission of India (ECI) to roll out voter roll revision in Tripura like Bihar.

In a social media post on Sunday, Debbarma questioned why similar scrutiny is not being applied in northeastern states, particularly Tripura, where elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) are due in 2026, ahead of the state Assembly elections scheduled for 2028.

“The same exercise should be conducted in Northeast India, especially Tripura and the officers must include our indigenous Tiprasa people/officers,” he said and shared a photograph of Bihar poll officials verifying voter details.

He argued that if such a rigorous process can be undertaken in Bihar, there is no reason why it should not be extended to other parts of the country. He said, “I fail to understand why Bihar is important and the Northeast is not for the Election Commission. Aren’t we also children of India?”
