Agartala, July 16: Expressing outrage over the crumbling infrastructure and poor healthcare services at the Unakoti District Hospital, Congress MLA Birajit Sinha led a road blockade protest on the Kailashahar-Dharmanagar road on Tuesday. The protest, organized by the Chandipur Block Youth Congress, took place in front of the hospital in Bhagaban Nagar area.

Joining the protest alongside MLA Sinha were Unakoti District Congress President Md. Badruzzaman, Pradesh Congress General Secretary Rudrendu Bhattacharjee, Congress leader Chandrasekhar Sinha, Youth Congress leaders Deep Sinha, Sanu Chowdhury, and several other party members.

While addressing the protest, MLA Sinha expressed deep concern over the neglected state of the hospital despite repeated efforts to bring it to the attention of the Chief Minister and Health Minister in the state assembly. “Nothing has changed. The hospital remains in a severely dilapidated condition,” he said.

He highlighted the lack of specialist doctors, absence of clean drinking water, unsanitary conditions throughout the hospital, and unusable toilets and bathrooms. Sinha also raised questions about unauthorized medicine procurement without proper tenders. Despite these serious issues, he alleged the hospital authorities remain indifferent.

MLA Sinha also criticized the Unakoti District Magistrate for not taking any concrete action to improve the hospital’s health services. He further slammed the inaction of the hospital’s Rogi Kalyan Samiti (Patient Welfare Committee), stating that no meetings are held and that even he, as an elected representative, is not invited to them.

After blocking the road for nearly an hour, the Youth Congress delegation submitted a deputation to the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, demanding immediate intervention and reforms.
