Agartala, July 16: In a major initiative aimed at uplifting Scheduled Caste fish vendors, the Tripura government has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art fish market at Maharajganj Bazaar in Agartala, said fishery minister Sudhangshu Das on Wednesday. The project, spearheaded by the Department for the Welfare of Scheduled Castes, is estimated to cost around ₹35 crore.
The minister accompanied by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar, along with local corporators, fish vendors, and departmental officials, visited the proposed site for inspection. The Mayor instructed officials to initiate the work without delay.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Dipak Majumder expressed confidence that the upcoming modern fish market will significantly benefit both the vendors and customers of Maharajganj Bazaar. He emphasized that the facility will enhance hygiene, infrastructure, and overall market experience for all stakeholders.
