Agartala, July 18: The TIPRA Motha MDC Umashankar Debbarma has raised serious allegations regarding the illegal stay of around 150–200 Bangladeshi-origin families in Tripura’s Sepahijala district and submitted a deputation to the Superintendent of Police Bijay Debbarma, urging immediate action.

According to the MDC, these families reportedly entered the state illegally from Bangladesh and are now residing in eight Village Committee areas under five police stations in the Bishalgarh and Sonamura subdivisions. He also alleged that several among them are involved in illegal cannabis (ganja) cultivation.

The deputation was submitted on Friday afternoon, demanding that these individuals be identified and deported at the earliest. Umashankar Debbarma further claimed that these illegal settlers have occupied nearly 3,000 kanis (a local land measurement unit) of land in the reserve forest area.

Accompanying him during the deputation were Bishramganj TTADC Sub-Zonal Chairman Sanjit Debbarma, Pandab Debbarma, Bablu Debbarma, and Bimal Debbarma. They collectively urged the district police chief to launch an immediate administrative crackdown in the concerned areas.
