Agartala, July 19: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday attended the workshop held on investigation and prosecution under new criminal laws and NDPS Act and said that modern, technology-driven, time-bound, and progressive laws aim to ensure justice for all citizens in a more efficient and transparent manner.

The State Home Department is playing a pivotal role in the implementation of these reformed legal frameworks, Dr Saha said, adding that in order to further ensure smooth and effective implementation of these citizen-friendly laws, the workshop is held.

Meanwhile, the chief minister underlined the initiative of Special Task Force formed recently to detect, identify, and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and Rohingya people and said, “The Government of India will recognise those who came to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, etc, before December 2014 due to religious persecution, those who come after that will not be.”

CM Saha said that STFs are being established to combat illegal immigration along the 856 km-long Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura. He also reassured the public that only a minimal number of illegal immigrants have entered Tripura so far.
