Agartala, July 22: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday stressed the deployment of drone technology to detect and eliminate illegal ganja cultivation across the state. The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting of the Task Monitoring System, held at the Secretariat’s Video Conference Hall.

The meeting, aimed at assessing ongoing development initiatives and addressing administrative bottlenecks, saw participation from department secretaries, directors, District Magistrates, and Superintendents of Police from all eight districts via virtual mode.

Dr. Saha conducted a detailed review of the state’s law and order status, progress in PWD-led infrastructure and construction works, the healthcare delivery system, educational infrastructure development, electricity supply issues, and the rising traffic congestion in Agartala city.

Highlighting the urgency to control illegal cannabis farming, the Chief Minister instructed officials to use drone surveillance to identify hidden plantation sites. He also urged law enforcement agencies to enhance their public outreach and foster a more citizen-friendly image.

To tackle Agartala’s growing traffic problem, Dr. Saha proposed a policy requiring all vehicle owners in the capital city to maintain garage space, aiming to reduce on-road parking and decongest key areas.

On the healthcare front, the Chief Minister directed the Health Department to ensure full functionality of all oxygen plants and ventilator systems in government hospitals, stressing the importance of readiness in critical care infrastructure.

Dr. Saha reiterated that insights gained through the Task Monitoring System would form the foundation for the state’s future development roadmap. He called on all departments to function in close coordination, act on public grievances, and intensify efforts to speed up developmental progress across sectors.
