New Delhi, July 24 (IANS): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that the Congress party’s top leadership has fully backed the implementation of the Telangana model of social justice for OBCs at the national level.

Following a meeting with Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Revanth Reddy said the Congress party is committed to expanding the Telangana model, which is rooted in scientific caste enumeration and increased OBC representation.

He highlighted that Telangana was the first state in independent India to conduct a comprehensive caste survey, known as the Socio-Economic, Education, Employment, Political and Caste (SEEEPC) survey. Based on this data, the state passed two Bills recommending 42% reservations for OBCs in education, employment, and local body elections. These Bills have been sent to the Centre for inclusion in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution.

Revanth urged Rahul Gandhi and Kharge to press the BJP-led Centre to clear these Bills during the ongoing Parliament session. He affirmed that the movement for social justice would be led by Congress’s national leadership.

Mallikarjun Kharge, in a post on social media platform ‘X’, declared the beginning of Congress’s “Social Justice 2.0” movement, stressing the need for a nationwide caste census and removal of the 50% reservation cap. He cited Telangana’s approach as a national model, calling its survey “scientific and inclusive.”

Kharge further criticized the Centre for failing to fill reserved posts in central universities, saying, “80% of OBC professor posts and 83% of ST posts lie vacant.”

Congress leaders praised the efforts of the Telangana government, the Expert Working Group, and party members, reaffirming their commitment to OBC empowerment through legislative and parliamentary means.
