Agartala, July 24: A delegation from the TIPRA Motha Party, led by Royal Scion and TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, met BJP National President J. P. Nadda in New Delhi to push for the immediate implementation of key issues concerning the indigenous people of Tripura.

The meeting, attended by TIPRA Motha’s elected representatives including newly elected MP from Tripura East, Smt. Kriti Devi Debbarman, focused on the urgent need for conducting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Tripura. The delegation emphasized that this revision is critical for ensuring the accuracy of voter records and safeguarding the electoral rights of indigenous communities.

Another major point of discussion was the expedited implementation of the TIPRASA Accord, which was agreed upon by the Government of India ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The delegation urged the BJP leadership to uphold its commitment to the indigenous people by ensuring swift action on the terms outlined in the Accord. They reiterated that delays in its implementation could erode the trust of the tribal population in the democratic process.

Concerns about national security were also raised during the meeting, particularly in relation to the ongoing situation in Bangladesh. The delegation expressed alarm over the atrocities being reported against minority communities in the neighbouring country, highlighting the potential spillover effects on the northeastern region, including Tripura.

Speaking after the meeting, TIPRA leaders expressed cautious optimism and reiterated their stand that the rights and welfare of Tripura’s indigenous communities must not be compromised. They called upon the Centre to act with urgency and seriousness on its pre-election commitments to the people of Tripura.

The party’s leadership affirmed that they would continue to advocate for their people through democratic and constitutional means.
