Agartala, July 27: In a heartbreaking incident, a talented student, Trisha Majumder, passed away this morning at GBP Hospital in Agartala, despite the best efforts of doctors. The young girl, reportedly devastated after being scolded by her teacher, succumbed to the injuries sustained in an alleged suicide attempt.

Trisha, daughter of Samar Majumder, was a resident of Barpathari Sonapur under the Belonia sub-division. A class 10 student at Barpathari Sonapur School, she was known for her academic excellence and had secured the top position in her class. In a recent school test, she scored 13 out of 14 in biology.

According to reports, Trisha had used a different pen to answer the last question in the exam. Despite the answer being correct, the examiner, identified as teacher Bina Das Patari, deducted one mark. When Trisha approached her regarding the deduction, the teacher allegedly accused her of cheating and humiliated her in front of her classmates using harsh and insulting language.
Deeply hurt and distressed by the incident, Trisha reportedly consumed poison upon returning home. Her family immediately rushed her to the Barpathari Primary Health Centre.

Observing the critical nature of her condition, doctors there referred her to Santir Bazar District Hospital. After being treated there for a day, she was shifted to GBP Hospital in Agartala for advanced care.

Unfortunately, Trisha passed away early this morning. Upon hearing the tragic news, local MLA Sudip Roy Barman visited the hospital and met with Trisha’s grieving father.

The incident has plunged the entire locality into mourning, sparking discussions around the mental well-being of students and the conduct of educators in schools.
