Agartala, July 29: The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan virtually laid the foundation stones for six new tribal hostels in South Tripura district on Tuesday, as part of the PM Janman and Dharati Aba Janbhagidari Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan schemes aimed at uplifting tribal education infrastructure.

These hostels will be constructed at various locations including Gobindabari High School and Naraifang High School(for both boys and girls) under Bokafa Block, as well as Binoy Prasad Para High School and Krishnarampur High School (boys and girls) under Jolaibari Block. Each hostel will be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.30 crore.

The central ceremony was organized at the Kwaifang Community Hall, where Tripura’s Minister for Co-operation, Shuklacharan Noatia, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, the minister emphasized that the progress of any society is impossible without the spread of education. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to uplifting the tribal communities through targeted education programs.

He also announced that 27 hostels will be built in the state under the PM Janman initiative, and the number of Eklavya Model Residential Schools has been increased to 21. The government, he said, is striving to ensure that the benefits of developmental schemes reach the last person in society.

Other dignitaries present at the event included Ashok Mog, Chairman of Jolaibari BAC; Mohammad Sajjaj P., District Magistrate of South Tripura; Dilip Debbarma, District Education Officer; and Tapas Dutta, Chairman of Jolaibari Panchayat Samiti. Additionally, separate foundation stone laying ceremonies were attended by MLAs Promod Reangand Mailayu Mog, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Deepak Dutta, Shantirbazar Municipal Chairperson Swapna Baidya, and Bokafa Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Krishna Reang.

Meanwhile, in Mohanpur, the Union Minister also virtually laid the foundation stone of a 50-bed boys’ hostel at Radhanagar High School, located in East Tamakari ADC village under Hezamara Block. This project will cost approximately Rs. 2.80 crore.

A local ceremony was held at the school campus, attended by Rabindra Debbarma, Executive Member (Education), ADC; Biswajit Shil, Acting Chairperson of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad; Sunil Debbarma, Chairman of Hezamara BAC; Nihar Ranjan Debbarma, Vice Chairman; Subhash Dutta, SDM of Mohanpur; and Manas Murasing, BDO of Hezamara Block. Speaking at the event, Rabindra Debbarma highlighted the continuous efforts of the state government and the ADC in enhancing educational infrastructure across tribal areas.
