Agartala, July 30: To support the fish farmers, who were affected by the devastating flood last year, the department of fisheries on Wednesday distributed equipment and financial aid here in a programme at Nazrul Kalakshetra.

Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das attended the programme and said that initiative reflects the joint efforts of the central and state governments to uplift fish farmers economically and socially. Through various schemes, genuine fish farmers are being provided with multiple forms of support to encourage greater participation in aquaculture and ensure sustainable livelihoods in the sector, he added.

The programme included the distribution of financial assistance to the affected fish farmers, presentation of certificates to beneficiaries trained in net-making under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, and distribution of essential fishery equipment.
