Agartala, July 31: In a tragic late-night accident on Wednesday, four persons, including a TSR jawan, lost their lives after a high-speed Innova vehicle collided violently with a police commander jeep at Chirakuti Tri-junction in Kailashahar. The impact of the crash caused the Innova to overturn and fall into a concrete drain nearly 50 meters away, resulting in a devastating scene.

According to police sources, TSR jawans from the 8th Battalion, Milon Debbarma and Motilal Sangma, were stationed at the tri-junction as part of routine duty. Around midnight, a white Innova bearing registration number TR02M0599, traveling at high speed from Kumarghat to Kailashahar, rammed into the stationed police vehicle.

The collision left both vehicles mangled beyond recognition. Milon Debbarma died on the spot, while Motilal Sangma sustained critical injuries. He was initially taken to Unakoti District Hospital and later referred to GBP Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment.

The Innova had three occupants—Akhtar Hossain, Sajid Khan, and Monojit Shabdakar—all residents of Bhagaban Nagar, Kailashahar. Akhtar Hossain was declared dead upon arrival at Unakoti District Hospital. Sajid Khan, critically injured, succumbed to his injuries en route to Silchar after being referred for emergency care. Monojit Shabdakar passed away on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment.

Medical Superintendent of Unakoti District Hospital, Dr. Rohan Pal, confirmed the deaths and informed that Milon Debbarma’s body was handed over to the family after post-mortem at 11 AM on Thursday, while the other bodies were released later that afternoon.

Police officials, including Unakoti SP Sudhambika R., visited the accident site on Thursday morning, but refused to comment on the incident. Later in the day, DIG (Northern Range) Rati Ranjan Debnath, along with senior police officials, including SDPO Jayanta Karmakar and Kailashahar OC Tapas Malakar, inspected the site. The DIG described the incident as “deeply tragic” and acknowledged the impact it has had on law enforcement personnel in the district.

Local residents alleged that the three deceased from the Innova were involved in narcotics trade, including brown sugar and yaba tablets, and had previously been arrested and jailed for similar offenses. OC Tapas Malakar also confirmed their involvement in drug-related activities.
