Agartala, August 9: The third edition of the Tripura Queer Pride Walk 2025 was held on Saturday, with members of the LGBTQ community taking to the streets of Agartala in a vibrant show of unity and self-expression.
The colourful march began from Umakanta School and passed through various streets of the city, drawing attention from onlookers and spreading messages of equality and acceptance.
The first Queer Pride Walk in Agartala was organised in September 2022 by Swabhimaan, a local social group of LGBTQ activists. The annual walk aims to challenge social prejudices and discrimination, while promoting respect and equal rights for all.
Speaking to the media, one participant said, “We are all human beings. We have the right to live as ourselves and to be accepted as we are, without any compulsion or force. Just as others live freely, we want to live the same way. The Constitution has given us that right.”
They further stressed that gender identity rights belong solely to individuals, as guaranteed by the Constitution. However, many in Tripura still hesitate to come out due to family and societal pressure, often forced to hide their true selves. “This injustice should not be accepted,” they added firmly.
