Agartala, Aug 9, 2025 — “Tripura’s queer community is here, and they deserve to be seen, heard, and respected,” declared members of the LGBTQ+ community as the streets of Agartala burst into vibrant colours, music, and slogans during the third edition of the Tripura Queer Pride Walk 2025 on Saturday.

The rally, which began at the Umakanta School grounds, wound its way through key areas of the city, with participants proudly carrying rainbow flags, placards, and banners. The march attracted curious onlookers and supportive cheers, turning the route into a moving celebration of diversity. Organisers described the path as symbolic—representing the community’s ongoing journey toward visibility, acceptance, and equal rights.

More than just a march, the event was a statement. It underscored that LGBTQ+ individuals are integral members of society, sharing the same aspirations and challenges as everyone else. “We want to live with everyone, not in isolation. This walk is a step toward that shared future,” said one participant, capturing the essence of the Pride movement.

The Pride Walk aimed to dismantle stereotypes, challenge prejudices, and encourage inclusive thinking in Tripura. It was a celebration of love and identity, but also a call to action for policymakers, communities, and individuals to create safe, respectful spaces for all.

The tradition began in September 2022, when Swabhiman, a local LGBTQ+ activist group, organised Tripura’s first Pride Walk. Over the years, the event has grown in scale and impact, with increasing public engagement and media coverage.

This year’s edition brought together a diverse spectrum of participants—lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and allies—marching side by side in solidarity. With each step, the rally amplified its message: equality is not a privilege but a right, and inclusion is the path forward for a just and compassionate society.
