Agartala, Aug 11: A schoolteacher was injured on Sunday after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle from the Dhalai District Magistrate’s convoy near Sudharam area.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when Dhalai District Magistrate Vivek H. B. was travelling from Ambassa to Kamalpur to attend an event where the state’s Power Minister was present. The official convoy was reportedly moving at high speed when, while taking a turn at Sudharam, one of the vehicles struck a motorcyclist approaching from the opposite direction.

The impact caused the rider to be thrown off the motorcycle onto the road. Police personnel accompanying the District Magistrate’s convoy immediately stopped to assist the injured man and transported him to the Dhalai District Hospital.

Hospital sources said the victim, identified as Nirmal Debnath, a teacher at Dolu Chhara SB School, is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is reported to be stable, though he sustained injuries from the fall.

A colleague of the injured teacher, who witnessed part of the aftermath, said the collision happened suddenly as the convoy turned sharply without enough time for the motorcyclist to react. “It was a matter of seconds — the bike was hit, and he was on the ground,” the witness said.

The driver of the convoy vehicle involved in the accident also provided his account, stating that the motorcyclist appeared unexpectedly from the opposite direction, leaving little room to avoid the collision despite efforts to brake.

Local police have registered the incident and are looking into whether speed, visibility, or road conditions played a role. Authorities have not yet confirmed if any formal investigation will be launched.

The accident caused brief traffic disruption in the area but movement resumed shortly after.
