Agartala, Aug 17: Voluntary blood donation is gradually transforming into a mass movement, with various clubs, social organizations, and institutions actively participating. “We often contribute through food and clothing donations, but blood donation stands above all such acts,” said Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha while inaugurating a blood donation camp at the CRPF Group Centre, located at Adarni Tea Estate in Mohanpur.
The camp was jointly organized by the Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), where 51 people donated blood voluntarily. On this occasion, Sanjib Dutta, a member of Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala, pledged to donate his body after death.
Speaking at the inaugural program, the Chief Minister emphasized that blood cannot be bought in the market, and the demand for it can only be met through voluntary donation. He highlighted the need to bridge the gap between demand and supply of blood and called for further expansion of voluntary blood donation initiatives.
Dr. Saha praised the CRPF for not only safeguarding the nation but also contributing to social causes such as blood donation. He expressed gratitude to the CRPF and the Rotary Club for organizing the camp. Stressing further, he said, “Along with blood donation, we must also spread awareness about body and organ donation.”
Referring to India’s independence, the Chief Minister urged people to always remember and pay tribute to the martyrs whose supreme sacrifices made freedom possible.
The program was also addressed by CRPF’s Tripura Sector IGP Bimal Kumar Bisht and Director of Health Services Dr. Tapan Majumder. Among those present were CRPF DIG Y.K. Rajput, DIG Henzeng, and other dignitaries. The welcome address was delivered by Rotary Club President Dr. Damodar Chatterjee, while Secretary Jhumur Banik Sengupta proposed the vote of thanks.
Before the program commenced, the CRPF presented a Guard of Honour to the Chief Minister.
