Agartala, Sep 04: Former Chief Minister of Tripura and sitting Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb highlighted the challenges of post-disaster recovery in the state during a meeting of the Advisory Committee on “Disaster Management and Capacity Building”, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Speaking at the meeting, Deb pointed out that delays in conducting post-disaster surveys often result in late rehabilitation and reconstruction measures, leaving affected families in prolonged hardship. He urged the committee to prioritize timely assessments and swift fund allocation to ensure effective relief.

Responding to Deb’s concerns, the Home Minister assured that the Ministry of Home Affairs had already taken steps in this direction.

It was recalled that on 19 August 2019, the Ministry decided to deploy Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to disaster-hit areas without delay. These teams are tasked with assessing damages, verifying state government reports, and ensuring that allocated funds reach the affected families promptly.

The assurance was welcomed by the committee, with emphasis placed on improving coordination between the central teams and state administrations for faster relief and rehabilitation of disaster-affected communities.
