Agartala, Sep 05: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday paid tribute to teachers of the state, describing them as innovators who shape students’ lives by imparting knowledge and values.

Addressing the gathering in the state level teachers’ day celebration here at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Friday, Dr Saha said, “After parents, teachers hold the most respected place in a person’s life. They instill moral values, discipline, and a sense of justice, grooming students into responsible citizens who will lead the state and the nation in the future.”

The Chief Minister stressed that teachers must nurture students in a friendly and emotionally engaging atmosphere, encouraging them to take on challenges in life with courage and become role models in society.

“No other profession can be compared to teaching, for teachers build the foundation of a nation’s future,” Dr Saha said, adding that true teachers are those who go beyond textbooks to impart values and life lessons.

Prestigious state-level awards were presented on the occasion: the Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Award to noted educationist Dr. Atul Debbarma, the Maharani Tulsibati Award to Pranati Debbarma, headmistress of DC Para Hemanta Smriti School, and the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Award to distinguished teacher and educationist Samir Chakraborty. Highlighting the roots of India’s ancient knowledge tradition, Dr. Saha said, “Teachers are like the roots of a tree, nourishing and shaping society. Once upon a time, India was the global hub of knowledge, education, and science. The National Education Policy introduced under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership will bring about a transformative change in our education system.”

Outlining recent educational developments in Tripura, the Chief Minister informed that the state now hosts several universities, with a women’s university also in progress. “Students now have ample opportunities within the state itself to pursue MBBS, dental, B.Sc.
