Agartala, Sep 07: Majlishpur once bore the scars of political violence, but today the ruling BJP claims it has turned the tide. At a protest meeting in Ranirbazar under the 10-Majlishpur Mandal on Sunday, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury launched a fierce attack on the CPI(M), accusing the Left of nurturing an era of unrest, propaganda, and bloodshed.
Chowdhury, addressing his own constituency, drew a sharp line between the two parties’ approaches. “The BJP believes in politics based on performance and service to the people. The CPI(M) only thrived on conspiracy and terror,” he declared.
Invoking one of the darkest episodes in Tripura’s political history, the 2003 Mandwai massacre, Chowdhury alleged that 11 lives were lost in a “politically motivated plot” designed to safeguard the electoral prospects of the then CPI(M) minister Manik Dey. “It was nothing but a conspiracy born out of fear of losing power,” he charged.
Chowdhury contrasted the situation before and after 2018, claiming that under BJP’s watch, Majlishpur has witnessed no political murders or terror. He attributed this to the party’s discipline and commitment to democratic values.
“We are a party of development, of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas. Our politics is driven by performance, not propaganda. That is why development works are moving ahead without fear or violence,” the minister told the gathering.
The protest meeting, organized under the BJP’s Majlishpur Mandal unit, concluded with a strong reaffirmation of the party’s stand against political violence and its pledge to continue governance rooted in performance.
