Agartala, Sep 08, 2025: Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital has achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of its fourth kidney transplant.
The transplant, performed on Monday, marks another step forward in providing advanced healthcare services within the state.
The procedure was carried out on a 23-year-old resident of Rabindrapally, Mohanpur West, Sidhai. His 45-year-old mother generously donated her kidney to save her son’s life. Both the donor and the recipient are reported to be in stable and healthy condition following the surgery.
The transplant was conducted by a team of expert doctors from both the Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital, as well as the Sija Hospital & Research Institute, Manipur. From Agartala, the team included Consultant Nephrologists Dr. Manas Gop, Dr. Samaresh Pal, Dr. Reshmi Das, and Dr. Udayan Saha. Representing Sija Hospital, the transplant team was led by Consultant Urologists and Transplant Surgeons Dr. Soumorendra Pounam and Dr. Maharabam Mahili.
Consultant Urologists from Agartala included Dr. Mukut Debnath, Dr. Bijit Lodh, and Dr. Jiban Debnath. Anesthesia support was provided by Dr. Kajal G. Momin and Dr. Gayatri S. Pillai from Sija Hospital, while from Agartala, Dr. Bhaskar Majumdar, Dr. Ranjit Riang, and Dr. Tapan Debbarma played vital roles.
Operating theater nurses, floor nurses, and technicians were also actively involved in ensuring the success of the procedure. The transplant coordination was led by Mr. Himadri Kor, and overall supervision was provided by Senior Nursing Officer In-Charge Mrs. Tapati Chakraborty.
The Health Department confirmed the achievement through an official press release, emphasizing the state’s growing capabilities in handling complex medical procedures and improving patient care.
This success is seen as a reflection of the government’s ongoing commitment to enhance healthcare infrastructure and ensure that critical treatments are available within the state.
