Agartala, Sep 15: The Tripura Legislative Assembly’s upcoming monsoon session is set to commence on September 19 and extend until September 23, a revision from its earlier scheduled conclusion on September 22.

The extension was unanimously approved during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) on Monday, according to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

The BAC deliberations involved key stakeholders including ministers Ratan Lal Nath and Sushanta Chowdhury, Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy, MLAs Rampada Jamatia, Birjit Sinha, and Animesh Debbarma, along with Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Pal.

Although Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury was unable to attend due to prior commitments, another CPI(M) member represented the party.
Owing to Speaker Biswabandhu Sen’s medical absence, Deputy Speaker Pal took the floor and presented the business report as per parliamentary procedure. Minister Nath noted that with Durga Puja approaching the state’s most celebrated festival, the session’s schedule was kept concise to balance legislative and cultural priorities.

Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to Tripura on September 22 influenced the decision to forgo a sitting on that day. All pending business has been rescheduled for September 23.

The session is expected to focus on key legislative reforms, with the government introducing four amendment bills including Tripura State Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, Tripura Public Trusts (Amendment) Bill, Factories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and Tripura Shops and Establishments (Seventh Amendment) Bill.

With both festive commitments and high-profile visits shaping its course, the session is likely to be closely watched for the government’s legislative priorities and administrative coordination.
