Agartala, September 26: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Thursday said Tripura has earned recognition as a “front runner state” in terms of development across sectors, particularly in healthcare. He was speaking at an appointment letter distribution programme held at Pragya Bhavan, where newly recruited General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs) under the Health Department and Librarians under the School Education Department were formally inducted.
A total of 214 candidates have been appointed as General Duty Medical Officers and 12 as Librarians. Out of them, the Chief Minister personally handed over appointment letters to 32 GDMOs and 5 Librarians during the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha urged the new recruits to serve people with sincerity and dedication. “Everyone receiving appointment today must prepare themselves to deliver services with a sense of responsibility and commitment,” he said.
Highlighting the state government’s initiatives, the Chief Minister noted that Tripura is witnessing a wave of development under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has stressed skill development as a cornerstone of employment generation. He pointed out that the state’s per capita income has risen significantly in recent years.
Detailing achievements in the health sector, Dr. Saha said the number of MBBS seats in Agartala Government Medical College has been increased to 150, with plans to add another 50 seats. The bed capacity at AGMC and GBP Hospital has been raised to 1,413. Since 2018, 705 doctors, 368 paramedical staff, and 308 MTS staff have been recruited. He also mentioned the establishment of a dedicated Mother and Child Hospital in Belonia, with a similar facility planned for Agartala.
Tripura, he added, has the highest number of beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) in the entire country. As a result of consistent improvements in healthcare, the state has recorded a sharp decline in infant mortality. The state has also been nationally awarded for its success in the “TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” campaign.
Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kiran Gitte, addressing the event, called upon the new officers to work with dedication in their respective institutions. Director of Health Services Dr. Tapan Majumder, School Education Department Director N.C. Sharma, National Health Mission Mission Director Saju Wahid A., and AGMC Principal Dr. Arun Kumar Saha were also present.
