As part of the ongoing Smart City initiative under the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Mayor Dipak Majumder on Saturday conducted an extensive inspection of the covered drain construction works along Lakshmi Narayan Bari Road and Women’s College Road. The visit aimed to review the progress, quality, and efficiency of the drainage infrastructure designed to mitigate waterlogging problems during the monsoon season.

During the inspection, Mayor Majumder interacted with officials from various government departments and stressed the urgent need to speed up repair and completion of the ongoing road and drainage works. He underscored that the success of the Smart City project depends on timely execution and adherence to quality standards, ensuring that residents experience visible improvements in urban living conditions.

Highlighting the importance of efficient water management, the Mayor directed engineers to initiate the construction of box culverts in key flood-prone zones. These culverts are expected to significantly improve the city’s drainage capacity and prevent seasonal flooding, which often causes inconvenience to pedestrians and commuters.

Mayor Majumder reaffirmed AMC’s commitment to public welfare and sustainable urban development, stating, “All ongoing works are being executed with special attention to public convenience and minimal disruption to daily movement.”

The inspection also served as a platform for inter-departmental coordination, ensuring that all stakeholders remain aligned with the project’s objectives.

Among those present during the visit were Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, CEO of Agartala Smart City Limited; Abhishek Singh, IAS, Secretary of Urban Development; engineers from the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Department; and other senior officials. The Mayor instructed them to maintain strict monitoring to ensure timely and quality completion of all developmental works under the Smart City Mission.
