Agartala, Oct 17:
The Bangladesh government has lodged a strong protest with India over the killing of three Bangladeshi nationals who were allegedly beaten to death by villagers in Tripura’s Khowai district, near the Vidyabil border area, on October 15.

In a formal note sent to New Delhi, Dhaka expressed deep concern and called for an impartial and transparent investigation into what it described as a “brutal assault and killing.” The Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an official statement, termed the incident a serious violation of human rights, urging swift identification and prosecution of those responsible.

“The heinous act is completely unacceptable. Every individual, irrespective of nationality, deserves full protection of human rights, no matter which side of the border they belong to,” the statement read.

According to Khowai district police, the three deceased Bangladeshi nationals allegedly crossed the international border illegally on the night of October 15 with the intent to steal cattle from Vidyabil village. When villagers noticed suspicious movement and tried to intercept them, the suspects reportedly attacked two local residents with sharp weapons, injuring both.

One of the injured villagers, Mithu Telanga, later succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while another, Dhirendra Telanga, remains hospitalised. Following the attack, enraged villagers reportedly caught the three intruders and beat them to death before police arrived at the scene.

Police have since registered a case and launched an investigation into both the attempted robbery and the subsequent lynching. The incident has triggered tension in the border area and diplomatic unease between India and Bangladesh.

Authorities in both countries are now working through diplomatic and security channels to ensure calm and prevent recurrence of such cross-border violence.
