Agartala, Nov 2: Tripura Police have denied permission for the Tipra Motha’s proposed mass rally scheduled for November 7 at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala, citing safety, congestion, and logistical concerns.

In an official communication to the applicant, Suraj Debbarma of the Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) Debaprasad Roy stated that permission could not be granted due to the ongoing International Expo occupying a major portion of the ground.

Police noted that the Expo is witnessing large public participation, including women, children, and international delegates, and involves extensive installations and property within a confined space. Conducting a mass political rally simultaneously, they warned, could create severe congestion and even a “stampede-like situation,” endangering the safety of visitors and posing risks to public property.

Authorities further emphasized that the Vivekananda Maidan is centrally located and surrounded by key city roads, which serve as vital routes for traffic movement and hospital access. A massive gathering, as expected for the Tipra Motha event, could severely disrupt vehicular flow, inconvenience the general public, and hinder emergency services.

In light of these concerns, the SDPO (Sadar) urged the regional party to refrain from organizing the event at the current venue. However, the police have invited Tipra Motha to submit a revised proposal suggesting an alternate venue or a new date, assuring that the request will be reviewed in consultation with the concerned authorities.

The denial comes amid heightened political activities across Tripura, as parties gear up for upcoming organizational and public outreach events ahead of the local and state-level political calendar.
