Agartala, Nov 7: To commemorate 150 years of India’s national song “Vande Mataram,” Tripura Police on Friday organized a special celebration at the Police Headquarters in Agartala, filled with patriotic fervour and cultural pride.

The event featured a collective rendition of Vande Mataram, a photo exhibition depicting the song’s historical journey, and a performance by the Tripura Police Band, creating an atmosphere charged with devotion to the motherland.

Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag addressed the gathering, recalling the song’s pivotal role in India’s freedom movement. He described Vande Mataram as “a hymn that awakened national consciousness and united Indians under one spirit of sacrifice and selfless love for the country.” The DGP emphasized that even 150 years after its composition, the song continues to inspire patriotism, discipline, and unity among citizens and remains deeply embedded in the national psyche.

As part of the commemoration, Tripura Police paid floral tribute to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the illustrious author of Vande Mataram, recognizing him as a visionary whose words became a timeless symbol of national pride. Officers and personnel observed a moment of reverence in his honour.

The exhibition showcased rare photographs and archival materials tracing the journey of Vande Mataram from its creation in 1875 to its adoption as a rallying cry during India’s independence movement.

Speaking on the occasion, DGP Anurag urged the younger generation to learn about the song’s significance and its message of unity. “Vande Mataram is not just a song—it is the heartbeat of India,” he said.

The celebration concluded with resounding applause as the police band played the anthem, reaffirming its enduring power to unite the nation in spirit and sentiment.
