New Delhi, Nov 10 — At least eight people were killed and over a dozen others injured after a powerful explosion ripped through parked cars near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, triggering panic across the national capital. The blast also led to fires in several nearby vehicles and prompted authorities to issue a high alert in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Mumbai.

The injured have been shifted to LNJP Hospital, where several are reported to be in critical condition.

According to officials from the Delhi Fire Department, loud blast-like sounds were heard before emergency calls were received. Seven fire engines were immediately dispatched to the site to douse the flames and carry out rescue operations. The explosion reportedly originated from a parked car, igniting nearby vehicles and causing significant damage in the vicinity.

Senior Delhi Police officers, including members of the Special Cell, reached the spot soon after the explosion. The area around Red Fort — one of the most crowded parts of Old Delhi — has been cordoned off, and bomb disposal squads are conducting thorough checks to rule out the presence of additional explosives.

Preliminary reports suggest that the explosion may have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), though officials have yet to confirm this. Sources said that all major cities, including Mumbai and key areas in Uttar Pradesh, have been placed on heightened alert as a precautionary measure.

While several unverified social media posts have speculated a terror link, authorities have not issued any official statement confirming the motive behind the blast.

Security forces remain on high alert, and investigations are underway to determine the cause and those responsible for the deadly explosion.
