In a significant operation aimed at curbing illegal cross-border activities, a joint team of Tripura Police and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel conducted a successful raid at Rabindra Nagar, Bhogjur, under the Sonamura Police Station. The crackdown took place on Saturday afternoon following specific intelligence inputs indicating unlawful possession of weapons and narcotic substances in the area, located close to the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Around 3:30 PM, the joint team reached the residence and adjoining grocery shop of Babul Miah (49), son of Taru Miah. The raid was conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses to ensure transparency in the operation. Authorities meticulously searched the premises and uncovered a range of illegal items that point to serious criminal activities.

During the search, officials recovered a factory-made pistol, one magazine, and four live rounds of ammunition, indicating suspected involvement in illegal arms possession. They also seized 10 grams of Yaba tablets, a synthetic drug widely trafficked across the region, along with 100 Diazepam BP 5 mg tablets, suspected to have been smuggled from Bangladesh.

Additionally, a butcher’s meat chopper and 250 empty bottles of Eskuf cough syrup—often misused for illegal drug trade—were also recovered. These findings suggest possible connections to narcotics distribution networks operating along the border.

Following the seizure, Babul Miah was immediately arrested for possession of illegal arms and banned substances. His wife, Khursheda Begum (27), was detained for questioning to determine her involvement, if any, in the activities.

Authorities confirmed that a case is being registered under appropriate sections of law at Sonamura Police Station, and further investigation is underway to trace potential links to cross-border smuggling rackets.

The successful operation highlights the continued vigilance of security forces in safeguarding the border and curbing illicit activities threatening public safety.
