Agartala, Nov 18: In a significant boost to Tripura’s ongoing fight against narcotics, the Assam Rifles and the Customs Department seized 800 grams of high-grade cocaine valued at nearly ₹8 crore in Agartala on Monday. Two drug peddlers were arrested during the joint operation, marking one of the most notable cocaine recoveries in the region in recent months.

A Defence spokesperson said the operation was launched based on reliable intelligence inputs and successfully intercepted the traffickers in the heart of the state capital. The official noted that the seizure highlights the unwavering commitment of the Assam Rifles to curb drug trafficking and protect the youth of the Northeast from the growing menace of narcotics.

In an official statement, the force reiterated its resolve to ensure the safety and security of the region by conducting sustained operations against drug networks operating across state borders.

In a separate large-scale crackdown on illegal cannabis cultivation, state and Central security forces destroyed nearly 12 lakh semi-mature ganja plants worth an estimated ₹50 crore in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Tuesday. The joint operation was led by Sepahijala Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma and involved personnel from the district police, four Tripura State Rifles (TSR) battalions, Central Reserve Police Force, Women TSR, district civil administration, and the Forest Department.

The operation targeted multiple locations, including Sutarmura, Toktumadum, Chitta Rambari, Ukyamura, Tulamura Kamalnagar, and Ghatigar—areas falling under the jurisdiction of five police stations. The action was initiated based on intelligence gathered by the state police regarding widespread illegal cultivation.

Officials said that the destruction of such a massive quantity of cannabis plants marks a substantial blow to the network of illegal cultivators and traffickers operating in the region. Authorities emphasized that similar operations will continue in the coming months as part of Tripura’s mission to create a drug-free society.
