Agartala, November 29:
The Tripura Pradesh Congress on Saturday held widespread deputations across all eight districts of the state as part of a nationwide agitation against the four newly implemented labour codes and what the party termed the central government’s “anti-farmer and anti-working class policies” designed to benefit corporates.

The demonstrations spanned formal and informal sectors, government and public sector units, industrial zones, rural pockets, and block and sub-division headquarters. Informal sector workers, agricultural labourers, farmers, and common citizens participated in significant numbers, reflecting the party’s extensive mobilisation efforts.

In Agartala, a major rally commenced from the Congress Bhavan. Leaders, supporters, and workers marched through key streets carrying banners and party flags, raising slogans in defence of labour rights and farmers’ interests. The party leaders asserted that the nationwide protest was essential to safeguard the livelihood and dignity of millions of workers.

Youth Congress state president Neel Kamal Saha said similar deputations were submitted simultaneously in all districts, demanding immediate withdrawal of what he described as the “black laws” enacted by the government. He alleged that the new labour codes and related economic policies were intensifying hardships for workers and farmers, leading to rising distress and a growing number of suicides among vulnerable groups.

Saha also criticised the government for widening economic inequalities amid soaring prices of essential commodities, mounting unemployment, and increasing cases of suicides among daily wage earners and jobless youth.

Tripura Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty further alleged that the four labour codes—passed with what he called the BJP-led central government’s “brute majority”—had been framed to favour corporate entities at the expense of labourers, including those working in the media sector. He maintained that the codes, abruptly notified on November 21, 2025, were introduced in the name of ‘ease of doing business’ but were heavily skewed toward employers.

The programme concluded with Congress leaders submitting a memorandum to the Additional District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura district, urging urgent steps to protect the rights, wages, and livelihoods of workers and farming communities.
