Agartala, February 6:
In a decisive move to clear public spaces, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) carried out an eviction drive on Friday at the Lake Chowmuhni Market, targeting vendors who had illegally encroached upon roads and footpaths. The operation was conducted in the presence of AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, along with municipal officials, to ensure smooth traffic flow and accessibility for residents.

Speaking to the media during the drive, Mayor Majumder emphasized that such eviction operations are part of a sustained initiative by the municipal administration. “Strict action is being taken against those illegally occupying public roads to run their businesses. Anyone found violating rules and regulations will face similar measures,” he stated.

The Mayor highlighted that the drives are being conducted at different times of the day to cover busy areas effectively and ensure minimal disruption to public movement. He also clarified that the AMC will not compromise on preventing illegal encroachments and will continue taking necessary steps to maintain public order.

Municipal officials noted that many vendors had set up temporary stalls on footpaths and roads, obstructing pedestrian movement and creating traffic congestion. The drive involved the removal of these structures and clearing of the occupied spaces, restoring accessibility and safety for the general public.

Mayor Majumder further announced that similar operations will be conducted in other key markets and densely populated areas across Agartala in the coming weeks. He urged shopkeepers and vendors to cooperate with the authorities and follow regulations while conducting their business.

The eviction drive has been widely appreciated by residents, who welcomed the municipal administration’s efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow and public convenience. Officials reiterated that AMC remains committed to creating a safe, organized, and encroachment-free city environment while balancing the interests of local traders.

This initiative marks a continued effort by the Agartala Municipal Corporation to enforce regulations and maintain order in the city’s crowded commercial zones.
