Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday lauded the Tripura Government for its outstanding performance in implementing rural development schemes, asserting that the state has secured the top position in rural governance and development across the country.
Addressing the first-ever elected representatives’ conference आयोजित to mark the enactment of the VBGRAMG scheme, Chouhan highlighted Tripura’s near-total achievement under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). “Against a target of 3,76,913 houses, Tripura has completed 3,73,828 dwellings, achieving a remarkable 99 percent success rate—something no other state has accomplished,” he said. He further informed that a recent survey identified 2.55 lakh unsafe houses, and after physical verification, nearly two lakh additional homes were found necessary. These will soon receive sanction.
The Minister also announced that proposals under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) to connect 109 villages in Tripura are in the final stages of approval. In the agriculture sector, he revealed that a team of experts from ICAR and his ministry will soon visit the state to prepare a comprehensive roadmap. The team will conduct soil testing, assess agro-climatic conditions, and evaluate water resources to guide future planning.
Chouhan declared an additional allocation of Rs 60 crore under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and Rs 4 crore under the Dalhan Mission to boost self-reliance in pulses production.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing the VBGRAMG Act, he said the scheme guarantees 125 days of employment with a total outlay exceeding Rs 2 lakh crore, ensuring transparency, accountability, and greater autonomy for Gram Sabhas in rural development spending.
