The NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT) on Saturday launched a six-day skill development training programme on pastry and cake making for women at Arkaneer in Sekerkote, West Tripura. The initiative, which began on February 14, aims to promote self-employment and encourage women to establish home-based enterprises. The training will continue until February 19, with participants receiving hands-on practical instruction in baking techniques and confectionery preparation.

The inaugural programme was attended by former Principal of Ramthakur Degree College, Dr Chitra Pal, as chief guest. Nibedita Roy Kar, Cluster Coordinator of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) under Dukli RD Block, graced the occasion as special guest.

Senior Executive Member of NBIRT Mohit Lal Acharjee, Technical Adviser of Arkaneer Er P L Ghosh, NBIRT Project Officer Anup Dey, Master Trainer Debasree Das and other officials were also present at the event.

Addressing the gathering, Anup Dey explained that the training programme is designed to equip women with practical, income-generating skills that can be translated into sustainable livelihood opportunities. Er P L Ghosh highlighted the importance of self-reliance and entrepreneurship among women, particularly in rural areas. Nibedita Roy Kar emphasised the significant role played by self-help groups and cluster-based approaches in strengthening women’s participation in economic activities.

In her address, Dr Chitra Pal stressed the need to align skill development initiatives with emerging market demands. She noted that cottage and small-scale industries can substantially enhance livelihood prospects for women.

Organisers informed that this is the first such training programme conducted at Arkaneer. The inaugural ceremony concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Er P L Ghosh.
