Political tension has escalated in Tripura following a protest staged outside the residence of Shanit Debray, editor of the daily newspaper Aajker Fariyad. The incident has triggered strong reactions across political circles, with Chief Minister Manik Saha publicly addressing the matter and condemning alleged misconduct against journalists.

Reacting to the controversy, the Chief Minister alleged that certain individuals were misusing political and administrative power to target members of the media. He asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would not tolerate any form of harassment or intimidation directed at journalists.

“Some individuals are using the authority of their positions to level false allegations against journalists. This is unacceptable. The government will not tolerate such actions, and appropriate steps will be taken,” Saha stated. He also issued a stern warning to MLA Ram Prasad Pal in connection with the episode.

Meanwhile, based on a complaint filed by Shanit Debray, the AD Nagar Police Station has registered a case. According to the complaint, he received death threats, and an unlawful assembly was organized in front of his residence with alleged attempts to defame and intimidate him. Following the complaint, a case has been registered against Ram Prasad Pal and his supporters.

Police sources indicated that action against the accused is expected within the next 24 hours, with steps being initiated to carry out arrests if necessary. The development has reportedly created concern among supporters of the MLA.

The incident has sparked wider debate about press freedom, political accountability, and the responsibilities of public representatives, as authorities move ahead with their investigation.
