Agartala is set for a high-security day on February 20 as Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrives in the state capital for an official visit. The administration has put in place extensive security arrangements across the city, deploying additional forces and intensifying surveillance at key and sensitive locations to ensure a smooth and incident-free programme.

During his visit, Amit Shah will inaugurate the Joint Regional Official Language Conference at the Hapania International Fair Ground. He is also scheduled to stay overnight in the city. His itinerary includes meetings with Chief Minister Manik Saha, senior BJP leaders, and alliance partners such as the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) and the Tipra Motha Party, underscoring the political significance of the visit alongside its administrative agenda.

Preparations have been underway for several days. On February 18, an Advanced Security Liaison (ASL) meeting was held at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport and the conference venue to review security protocols. Senior civil and police officials, along with representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, assessed route security, venue protection, traffic management, and emergency response mechanisms.

Authorities have emphasized close coordination among state police, civil administration, and central security agencies. Security coverage has been tightened at the airport, the conference site, major roadways, and other public spaces. Traffic diversions and crowd control measures are also being planned to minimize inconvenience to residents.

With Agartala hosting a major national conference and high-level political engagements, the focus remains firmly on ensuring robust security and seamless management throughout the Union Home Minister’s visit.
