Ahead of the forthcoming Budget Session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday participated in a key pre-budget consultation meeting at the state secretariat. Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy was also present during the discussions, which focused on financial planning for the upcoming fiscal year.
The Budget Session for the financial year 2026–27 is scheduled to commence on March 13. As part of the routine pre-budget exercise, the meeting was convened in the office chamber of the finance minister to deliberate on proposed allocations and departmental requirements.
In a social media post, Sushanta Chowdhury said the discussions centred on estimated receipts and expenditure for the current financial year, along with the temporary revised estimates for 2025–26 and the Budget Estimates for 2026–27. He added that detailed deliberations were held regarding fund requirements and sector-wise allocations for departments under his charge.
The minister oversees the Transport, Tourism, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs departments. During the meeting, he presented comprehensive data on projected income and expenditure, highlighting priorities and planned initiatives for the next fiscal year. Emphasis was placed on aligning financial allocations with developmental goals and service delivery commitments across sectors.
Officials noted that such pre-budget consultations are a standard procedure undertaken by the finance department before the presentation of the annual budget in the Assembly. Departments are required to submit revised estimates for the ongoing financial year and projected requirements for the upcoming year to facilitate informed decision-making.
These consultations help the finance department finalise allocations and ensure prudent fiscal management, balancing revenue expectations with expenditure needs before the budget is formally placed in the Assembly.
