Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday reiterated that welfare and development will remain the central pillars of his government’s agenda as the Budget session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly commenced. Emphasising a people-centric approach to governance, the Chief Minister said the upcoming state budget will focus on policies and programmes that directly benefit citizens across all sections of society.

Speaking to reporters after Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu’s address in the Assembly, Saha said the Governor’s speech highlighted the state government’s achievements over the past year while also laying out the roadmap for the future. According to the Chief Minister, the address reflected the progress made in key sectors under the current administration and set the tone for discussions during the ongoing session.

“The budget is meant for the people and their overall welfare. The coming year will focus on how we utilise resources, what kind of development initiatives we undertake, and how effectively government benefits reach the people. Once the budget is presented in the House, these priorities will become clearer,” Saha stated.

The Chief Minister also welcomed the Governor’s multilingual address, which began in Kokborok and continued in Bengali and English. He said the gesture symbolised Tripura’s cultural diversity and inclusiveness. “It was encouraging to see the Governor begin his speech in Kokborok and then speak in Bengali and English. This reflects the spirit of unity in diversity that defines our state,” Saha remarked.

Highlighting the significance of the Assembly session, the Chief Minister said the Governor’s address contained only the key highlights of the government’s work and plans, while more detailed discussions would take place during the debates in the House. He noted that both treasury and opposition members would get ample opportunity to deliberate on various issues concerning governance and development.

On the election of the new Speaker, Saha appealed to all legislators to extend their support to MLA Ram Pada Jamatia. He emphasised that cooperation among members would help ensure the smooth functioning of the Assembly.

With the session underway, the Chief Minister’s remarks underscored the government’s continued emphasis on welfare-driven development and inclusive governance for the people of Tripura.
