Kadamtala, March 15: In a notable political development in North Tripura, long-time CPI(M) leader and CITU state committee member Sajib Kumar Singh has severed his ties with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The development took place on Sunday afternoon at Singh’s residence in Ward No. 5 of East Fulbari village under the Kadamtala-Kurti Assembly constituency. A support meeting was organized on the occasion, where local BJP leaders welcomed him into the party fold by handing over the party flag.

During the programme, Panchayat Samiti Chairman Mihir Ranjan Nath and Kadamtala Mandal Secretary Subhash Das formally received Singh into the BJP.

Speaking to reporters after joining the party, Sajib Kumar Singh said that despite his long association and dedicated service to the CPI(M), he never received the recognition he deserved within the party. He added that he was inspired by the development-oriented policies and vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and decided to work towards strengthening the BJP and contributing to development initiatives.

North District Yuva Morcha Secretary Siddhartha Singh played a key role in facilitating his entry into the party. Several local leaders were present at the meeting and addressed the gathering, including Panchayat Samiti member Hashim Talukdar, North District Yuva Morcha in-charge Janmadin Kanu and Ustar Ali.

Along with Sajib Kumar Singh, four members of his family also switched allegiance from the CPI(M) to the BJP during the programme. Local sources indicated that a number of supporters and voters associated with Singh are likely to follow his move and join the BJP in the coming days.
